No Idea Why Anyone Would Choose Egnyte Over Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive
Bonnie B. – Restonic
What do you like best?
Egnyte Online has a more professional appearance than Google Drive for example and blends seamlessly into Windows folders. Egnyte Web Edit - (Like Google Docs/Sheets) was a great addition
What do you dislike?
Very confusing when trying to choose apps to integrate for users. I am IT support for 50-100 users who all use Egnyte in some fashion. I have multiple notes spanning 3 years about which Egnyte apps are good for what, who uses them, why they should use them. Egnyte "integrates" into so many other file sharing apps, Here are some of my notes on setting up new users with Egnyte that I learned the hard way: "Egnyte Connect Desktop App = Good one, install this one Egnyte Desktop Sync = BAD, uninstall if you find it- don't install for new users Egnyte WebEdit = Very Good, install, but teach users how to use it and that it exists" User Groups and Permissions can get very confusing very fast if you don't have solid rules in place or more than one IT staff assigning users to folders. You have to go hunting on the Egnyte website to get integrations like Egnyte Google Drive, Egnyte Microsoft Office, Egnyte Connect Desktop,Egnyte Desktop Sync, and then download and install for each user individually, instead of "natural" integrations installing with regular updates. (These are all free, you don't pay extra to have these integration applications.) Some users never complain and never have issues with syncing or losing their "Egnyte Folder" in Windows, but they are not the majority for us. It is not intuitive enough for locked down users to troubleshoot on their own each time the sync disconnects, and too complicated for the IT staff of a medium sized company to control proactively. To be fair, our Egnyte system was set up before I joined the company, but after 3 years and 10+ years of file sharing/collaboration and cloud storage programs, I still haven't grasped why anyone would choose this over Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive or even DropBox.

It's ease of use, ability to connect with SSO platforms and request files externally into a managed environment. We use it across the agency on project specific workflows and it's versioning and history functionality has saved projects thought lost before! Love that it is also able to preview PSD files visually which has saved us lots of time where we would normally be downloading GB's of files just to find that it was the wrong version or file.
What do you dislike?
Lack of office integration is putting it behind other alternatives. Collaboration tools are fairly clunky compared to other platform alternatives that have been used previously. Would love to see previews of files working further across .indd files and various other adobe platform file formats. It's lack of ability to preview or share basic svg formats in other forms than visually is limited to as we would normally prefer to share SVG formats in a code only view allowing for basic copy and paste rather than to download the file. These and other improvements could be made to save even more time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ensure to make use of SSO platform functions and share setting link defaults
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
File synchronization between both client and agency, project specific work with various clients and included versioning and version control of task specific files. We've realized as an agency we have to remain flexible to various platforms to ensure that we are able to work as a business.
It is a pretty very good tool to work in large organizations, for security, share, and organize.

The way that you get the info ready to share. The encryption of your files when sharing, and the ready-to-go button for it. The way that you can organize your files trough folders and share certain folders. At least on my plan i have no size limit yet (i believe so). The way that we can specifically when sharing selected files and folders. And again, the security, that let you put a password, but it comes with a great encryption for your files passwords.
What do you dislike?
I dont think that there is anything that i dont like from engnyte, beside that sometimes, the network won't load that fast enough (tested by multiple users), sometimes we are trying to recieve (dowload) a file and it takes a lot of time to download, i think that there is a problem trough the server download speed. But i don't really know if it is by our organization plan (because im a user) or because there is just a lot of people working with engnyte at the same time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Organization by folders helps a lot to work to yourself and with your teammates, keep your shit organized and you'll be ok.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Im sharing files with my team in a daily basis, organizing my work (advertising campaigns) trough folders, wich let me and my team mates know where specifically find certain files. Allows me to give the certains permitions for sharing, view and edit mode. So nobody can play with our files. So far i've been working with my
